Best Buy/Geek Squad charges $130.00 for a virus repair and recommends a backup for an additional $70.00, a $200 proposition. Staples prices are close to the same. Local shops have the ability to charge less but virus repairs can be very (VERY) challenging so the average prices range from $60.00 to $99.00.

We had a good day today. We received a call from a new warrantee company to let us know that we were selected specifically to do a very big job. A local charter school has a ton of computers and asked for PC Hub by name. So cool. See “Brenda vs. The Acer AP2000”.

He tells me that he’s been doing computer work for 12 years, oh.. okay. What is that, 1998 – 1997? Really, just because I’ve been doing this since 1977 means nothing. When it comes to virus repair it doesn’t matter what you did 5 years ago. The only thing that matters is what you learned yesterday.

Much of this job is research. Solving mysteries and riddles that many others have faced before you becomes the norm. The problem is that you can easily find 1000 people who have the same issue. You can find 1,500 people offering educated guesses regarding the solution. If you are lucky you will find 3 actual resolutions to the problem.
